Invest Africa’s Fintech Roundtable Event Review
The opportunity to present to an engaged and informed audience is one that is not to be missed. Invest Africa put together a comprehensive yet relaxed lunch even for Ovamba to present a case study to potential investors earlier in May…
Presenting a case study creates a framework of “realness” to on an early stage investor that creates a better connection to the narrative rather than a “traditional presentation” which can unwittingly come across as a “nice idea”.
Invest Africa obviously gets this nuance. There are plenty of “nice ideas” where Africa is concerned. The greater challenge is curating investible companies that have a real track record, hence the case study. It puts meaningful emphasis on the value of an opportunity and creates context for the investor.
I have attended round tables before for groups such as Corporate Council on Africa in the USA; what sets Invest Africa’s strategy apart is the intimate sizing of the luncheons, the presenters and the clear mandate that keeps all participants and attendees focused on the key points for consideration. It was an excellent experience!
Matching engaged, active investors with start-ups and growth stage African operators is key to the asset class of African Private Sector Investment. Despite great returns, and significant investment, the asset class is not widely known or understood – this is especially true for Africa focused FinTech. I have plenty to thank Invest Africa for their contribution to the globalization of what company’s like Ovamba do.
The results of engaging with Invest Africa have been swift and tangible! Since the luncheon, I have entered into early stage due diligence with one investor with specific appetite for what Ovamba does, and there are 2 collaborations possible with other data/tech innovators. I am most excited that the resurrection of a previous discussion occurred because of the “badge of legitimacy” that Invest Africa bestows when you present at their events. Could not be happier!
Bonus opportunity that came from this: collaborating on expanding the reach and accessibility of Women led investment opportunities. Diversity is an important component to the successful ecosystem of African Investment. Invest Africa gets that.
